Nope! Washington is a direct access state, which means you do not need a referral from a physician or other healthcare provider to see a physical therapist. Since Alpenglow Physical Therapy is a cash-pay practice, you can schedule an appointment directly with me without a referral.
If you plan to submit your visits to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, your plan may have its own referral requirements. I recommend checking directly with your insurance provider if you plan to seek reimbursement.

alpenglow PT is out of network with all insurance companies and is a cash-pay clinic. This allows your PT to spend one-on-one time with you and provide specialized treatment without being restricted or limited by insurance.

Unfortunately, reimbursement rates continue to drop for physical therapy services. This means many clinics are forced to squeeze more patients in per day and for shorter sessions, greatly impacting the level of care provided. Not going through insurance allows your PT to see you one-on-one for a longer session and receive the care you deserve without limitations by insurance.

You may have out of network benefits through your insurance. I recommend calling your insurance company to see if this is the case! Your PT can provide a super-bill which you would send to your insurance for potential reimbursement. You can also use HSA/FSA/HRA accounts for these services.

Many patients start PT after their 6-week follow-up with their OB or midwife, but you don’t have to wait until then. If you’re feeling ready, there’s plenty we can work on during those early weeks to support your recovery, help you move more comfortably, and start feeling more like yourself again.
